Stuffed Crust Pizza

Ingredients (yields one 16-inch pizza):

  • 1 packet fast rise yeast (active dry yeast will work to – you will just have proof it in the water and sugar first)
  • 3/4 cups warm water
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups pizza sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese
  • 12 sticks of string cheese
  • Toppings
  • 2 1/2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 2 tbsp grated parmesan cheese


  1. In a large bowl mix yeast, water, sugar, flour, oil, and salt together until all ingredients are well combined.
  2. Empty dough onto a lightly floured surface until it starts to become smooth and becomes a ball.
  3. Lightly grease the bowl and place the ball of dough back into the bowl.
  4. Cover and let rise for 2-3 hours.
  5. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  6. Roll the dough into an 18 inch circle and place it on a lightly greased pizza pan.
  7. Cut string cheese sticks in half and place around the outside of the dough (about 2 inches in from the edge).
  8. Fold edges over the string cheese and tuck and pinch the dough under the cheese.
  9. Bake in oven for about 15 minutes or until the crust starts to brown.
  10. Remove from oven and top with pizza sauce, cheese, and toppings.
  11. Melt butter in microwave, add garlic and parmesan cheese, and brush on the edges of the crust.
  12. Bake in oven for 12 – 15 mins or until cheese and crust start to brown.
